Transitioning to Winter | Layer Your Summer Top

From pearls to embroidery to stripes and, of course, all things off-the-shoulder, fashion killed it in the cute top department this summer. Seeing so much creativity and playfulness in the cuts and embellishments has been a huge source of inspiration for me lately. And although it’s getting cold out, I haven’t been quite ready to retire my summer tops.

Layering Your Summer Top

The key to keeping your summer tops from going intro hibernation is some good old layering. Being a city girl, layering is one my favorite styling tricks. Its crucial to be able to travel to meetings and lunches, be comfortable in the office, and also be able to grab a cocktail after work, all in one look. Not to mention, layering add so much depth and texture to your look.

For this look, I grabbed my off-the-shoulder striped summer top and threw on my turtle neck under. If follow me on the gram, you know I’m a huge fan of turtleneck layering. It’s so comfortable and chic. My turtleneck is actually a bodysuit, which I think makes layering your summer tops much neater. I loved seeing my girl, Natalie, from Style Report Mag transform her button down and was really inspired to get creative with my striped button down! Instead of simply wearing my top over a turtleneck, I tied the sleeves, unbuttoned and tucked the top into a V shape, and tucked my shirt in for a polished finish.

Mixing a summer top with winter fabrics and colors creates a chic, yet pulled together look. I paired my striped OTS top with my new All Saints wool coat, flared crop jeans, and patent boots. Had such a blast styling this look. I’d love to see how you get creative with your summer tops!
