A good blazer is every lazy girl’s secret to looking effortlessly chic. Growing up in NYC, I was constantly surrounded by bad-ass women dressed to the 9s, often layering their look with a blazer. Whether it’s colorful, checked, or plain black (like mega-babe Song of Style), a good blazer is the perfect finishing touch to any look.
This season, blazers have come back as a MAJOR trend. They dominated both the runway and the streets. I especially love how Natalie of Natalie Off Duty dressed her graphic tee and jeans up with this dope blazer for Paris Fashion Week. Some pieces are so great, they serve us as both a staple and a trend. The best part is, if you don’t already have a blazer, check out your mom or aunt’s closet for a vintage inspired one. Love me a good free.99 piece! (Hint Hint: mine is vintage J. Crew straight from my mama’s closet)
Styling a blazer is so easy. You can layer it over just about anything, like a fall floral dress or leather leggings. If you’re bold, try a matching set like one of my favorite bloggers, @Tezzamb. Tie in an oversized blazer to spice up a cute skirt or keep it simple with a tee shirt and jeans, like I did.
For my look, I paired my velvet blazer with a vintage eel skin bag, a belt, and my beige mules. I found this bag on my way home Yosemite at a tiny thrift shop for $12. It was such a steal. I love this look because its casual enough to wear for hangs around the city, but also office approved.
Blazer Styling Tips:
- Try a length that comes down past your hips. Longer blazers tend to look more chic than cropped ones.
- Double check the shoulder fit and make sure it isn’t too restricting or too baggy.
- A more relaxed fit will be easier to layer, especially if you want to layer a sweater on underneath in the winter months.
- A good sleeve roll will complete your look
