Spring Trend: Back to Basics

Before you dive into the fringe skirts, floral 70s, and flatforms this season, make sure you stock up on your staples.

In the heat of all festival trendiness, I find myself reverting back to basics. Sure kimono vests may look good with your concert outfit, but white button downs are FOREVER! Buttoned, tied, rolled up, tucked in — SO MANY OPTIONS!

I learned the importance of staple pieces while working at Zadig & Voltaire. Gotta love retail jobs to get you through college. The end all be all of french fashion – Zadig taught me that there is no “good wardrobe” without a few key basics! I am obsessed with the effortlessly chic french girl style. This has also been a huge component in transitioning my style from high school/college into real life woman.

Owning awesome basics doesn’t mean you have to pay an arm and a leg. While having a whole wardrobe of James Perse and Helmut Lang staples sounds amazing, Target and Gap have some of the best fitting and affordable tees and tanks I’ve found. I also really love Zara and H&M for their buttons downs, silk camis, and affordable denim.

For this look, I chose to go with the bare bone basics – a white button down and jeans. With staples, the key is in the detail. I tied in my favorite For Love & Lemons bralette, lace up leather booties, and new mini purse. I found these leather booties at Marshalls a few years ago. They are Cynthia Rowley and I have seriously been obsessed with them since. They are so unique! I really enjoy mixing metallics, so I threw in gold jewelry to spice it up!

I also had my first experience working with a fashion photographer, Arielle Levy, for this one. I found her through a few blogs I follow on Instagram. Believe it or not, Instagram is a GREAT way to network (it all goes down in the DM ;)). Needless to say, I had a pretty awesome first experience and definitely learned a lot about how difficult it is to get good shots! It’s funny how easy other bloggers make this look. Either way, she’s great and I’m sure you will be seeing a lot more of her work on The Arta Facts in the near future 🙂
